Kumar is currently working on 'Hype' a fictional feature film about love and
innocence lost, of three friends 'growing up' in New Delhi. The film belongs to a young urban
Indian woman, her coming-of-age in a whirligig sex, drugs and hedonism. It explores
aspirations and cravings for material pleasures, tensions between the traditional and
post-modern, the city and the country, avaricious capitalism and traditional modesty.
Says Kumar "Unprecedented cultural and moral changes in the last twenty years of
economic liberalisation have created a generation of young consumers whose philosophy
of life is lost on their parents' generation. The film is a coming-of-age of the
present generation of young Indians."
